In the heart of distant lands, where jungles whisper secrets and mountains echo with hope, young missionary kids embark on extraordinary journeys. Their days are filled with perilous encounters, wild animals, and the thrill of seeing lives transformed by the gospel.

In “Journey of Courage,” we explore the untamed paths these brave children tread. Each devotion invites readers to:

  1. Discover the Unknown: Step into the shoes of a missionary kid as they navigate uncharted territories. From bustling cities to remote tribal villages, every moment is an opportunity to witness God’s power at work.

  2. Face the Giants: Just like David faced Goliath, these young adventurers encounter their own giants—whether it’s fear, doubt, or cultural barriers. Through their stories, we learn that courage isn’t the absence of fear but the decision to trust God despite it.

  3. Celebrate Victories: From healing the sick to sharing the Good News, these kids witness miracles firsthand. Their faith grows as they see God’s faithfulness in every twist and turn of their missionary journey.

  4. Embrace the Unexpected: Life as a missionary kid is anything but predictable. Whether it’s unexpected friendships, language mishaps, or surprising encounters, these children learn to adapt and find joy in the adventure.

  5. Pray Boldly: As readers follow their exploits, they’re encouraged to pray boldly—for missionaries worldwide, for hearts to be opened, and for God’s kingdom to advance. Each devotion ends with a prayer prompt, inviting kids to intercede for specific needs.

Reflections

As an MK, your life is a really fun and unique journey filled with many twists and turns, and new horizons. Similar to how God called Abraham to depart from his homeland and go into the unknown, he has called you and your family as well, to spread God's love to people who have never heard it. Loving people is what we’re called to do. Jesus tells us to make disciples, and to baptise them in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. (Matthew 28:19, 20) Embrace the adventure, because the journey will teach you lessons that only God can give to you with these amazing experiences. No one can teach these special lessons in any classroom. Today, just take a moment to give thanks to God for the path he put you on, and trust in Him for your future.

Questions

  1. How do you think your experiences as an MK have been different from those in North America?

  2. How has God used your family in the country you serve in?

Prayer

Dear LORD, I thank you today for putting me on this fun and exciting path; this unique journey as an MK. Thank you for the many ways I can see you working in my life. I thank you for all of my experiences. Amen.

About the Author

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

As a MK (Missionary Kid) myself, I understand everything you’re going through. I am currently in pre-field missions with our flight leaving for Ecuador in 2 weeks. We started our journey as missionaries in 2019, and now it is 2023. It has taken us 4 years to finally get to the field. Most MK’s are young, so they live in their host country for most of their childhood. Our family, however, is quite a bit older. I’m 15, and my sister is 17. Both my brothers are in university staying in North America when we go down to Ecuador.

At the beginning of our journey, raising support and all, I wasn’t 100% about being a missionary. I didn’t feel the need to leave North America, learn a new language and go to a foreign country for a few years. I didn’t tell my parents about that. When people asked how I felt about it all, I just said, “it’ll be fun and a good experience!” with a smile.

After a Missionary conference I went to recently, and being surrounded by hundreds of missionaries and MK’s, it changed my view on everything. Listening to other MK’s experiences, it was inspiring and encouraging for me. Now, I am looking forward to the mission
